The internship program is designed to provide the successful candidate with a broad and intensive learning experience in equine ambulatory practice, equine medicine, equine surgery, and equine emergency and critical care. The program emphasizes individual animals. The program is designed to prepare individuals for residency training programs and graduates seeking advanced training and experience prior to beginning practice. Interns should expect to advance their technical skills, clinical decision-making, imaging skills, and ability to critically evaluate and potentially contribute to the scientific literature. The intern will be expected to develop clinical teaching skills. The goal is that upon completion of the internship, the intern will have seen a large and diverse caseload, performed a wide variety of procedures and techniques, and is ready to go out and practice high-quality equine field service medicine.
This program will provide the intern with:
Advanced clinical training in all aspects of equine general practice
Graduate-level veterinary lectures
Research opportunities including scientific writing and publication
Opportunity for teaching veterinary students and interns
A student at an AVMA-recognized institution or equivalent is required.
Additional Salary Information: N/A for extern but the internship pays $36,000
