JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the DUS Security Director, employee will be responsible for leadership and oversight activities of the Anchorage Animal Care & Control (AACC) facility including, but not limited to, oversight of shelter operations and management; veterinary services; provide professional opinions to legal counsel and other public entities; staff hiring, training, leadership and guidance; and ensuring compliance with client contract and all safety requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS •Bachelor’s Degree •Five (5) years of paid work experience in animal care and control •At least two (2) years’ experience as manager of animal care and control center or program •Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS •Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (CAWA) •Degree in Veterinary Medicine •Licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Alaska •Must be able to obtain DEA Controlled Substance Certificate upon hire
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS •Responsible for all aspects of Anchorage Animal Care & Control (AACC) operations •Supervise the overall management and operations of AACC •Oversee the policies and procedures of AACC. Provide consistently high quality services including humane animal care and treatment •Direct all operations of AACC and maintain compliance with the Animal Control Contract, AMC Title 17 and any other requirements as appropriate to AACC operations •Oversight for AACC, including animals overall medical and behavioral health. •Determine protocols in consultation with a licensed Veterinarian, for animal vaccinations, parasite control, population management, housing, enrichment, etc. •Oversee euthanasia program, administration of rabies, vaccinations, and microchips, and on-site spay and neuter services. •Represent and prepare documents for AACC involving animal cruelty cases; provide court testimony and/or professional opinion with attorneys.
