FELLOWSHIP IN WILDLIFE ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY/POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

WILDLIFE ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY/POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP The Department of Pathobiological Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison, in association with the USGS National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC), seeks applicants for a postgraduate fellowship position researching the etiology of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD). This is a 1-year position with the possibility of a subsequent 1-year renewal. Salary is $50,000 USD/year. Minimum qualifications include a DVM/VMD, PhD or equivalent degree and anatomic pathology experience. Preferred qualifications include candidates who have completed an anatomic veterinary pathology residency training program and have ACVP or ECVP board certification or individuals with prior aquatic pathology experience who have successfully completed a PhD. Successful candidates will be required to pass a federal background investigation. Primary responsibilities include pathological investigation into stony coral tissue loss disease, a devastating disease with unknown etiology of reef building corals (for more information on the disease, see here: https://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/news/aug18/coral-disease-mystery-florida-keys.html) in support of the multi-agency Florida Coral Reef Disease Advisory Committee and in close collaboration and support of NOAA coral reef programs. In addition, if the candidate is board certified, the pathologist will participate in the NWHC diagnostic pathology service including gross and histopathologic evaluation of animals from wildlife mortality events and research collaborations as well as participate in the instructional program for residents in anatomic pathology at UW. The successful applicant will conduct independent and collaborative research on stony coral tissue loss disease and will train under coral pathology specialists in Hawaii and Florida, though the primary duty station will be in Madison WI. The position is open until filled.
